An introduction to Elamite language through the Linear Elamite and cuneiform writings (online)
This seminar offers an overview of the Elamite language, with particular attention to recent advances following the decipherment of Linear Elamite, the script devised specifically for its notation during the 3rd and early 2nd millennia BCE. New insights in phonology and grammar have significantly enriched our understanding of this language.Among the grammatical aspects discussed will be class markers and the expression of the genitive, pronouns and resumptive pronouns, verbal morphology and conjugation patterns, and selected syntactic features, illustrated through examples drawn from cuneiform and Linear Elamite texts (https://hatamti-elam.uliege.be/docs) of the 3rd and 2nd millennia BCE.
