The presence of Italian scholars (all members, or member candidates of SISR) is not accidental. It testifies to the profound synergy between the Italian school of R. Pettazzoni and the Turkish school of Hikmet Tanyu (1918-1992), the founder of theTurkish tradition of History of Religions in the Republican era who was a PhD student of Annemarie Schimmel, appointed to the chair of the discipline in the faculty of theology in Ankara University from 1954 until 1959. Both Pettazzoni and his disciple U, Bianchi have been in fact translated into Turkish.

This congress follows a previous one:   The History of Religions in Turkey- Its Yesterday, Its Present and Its Future in Ankara (4- 6 December, 2009) organized by the Turkish Association for The History of Religions (TAHR) in occasion of another anniversary..
